LGBTQ+ Support in Montana
You have worked so hard to get to where you are today.
You have done the work to be comfortable in your own skin and happy with who you are, despite what others around you may think or say. You actually really love your life and feel great about yourself a lot of the time. Still, you also continue to find yourself impacted by problematic and hateful messaging from your extended family, community, government, and media.
You continue to be surprised that your loved ones remain quiet.
You feel confused why your family and friends aren’t speaking up more against all of the hate, violence, and discrimination happening against your community, and it makes you wonder if they really support you and your life, and where the line might be at which they will speak up. It makes you wonder how many of your values and beliefs may actually differ from those of your loved ones.
Do people really support this?
There are moments you think you are engaging with someone who you believe to be loving and accepting, thinking maybe you are making a new meaningful connection or even a friend, but then you are taken aback when they make a comment that indicates they may not be as loving or supportive of you and your community as you initially thought. In a world full of so much fear and hate, you are starting to feel really alone in your experience, and you are worried that you are going to start isolating yourself without knowing who you can safely talk to about everything. The hate directed at your existence and community can feel really scary and heavy at times, and you don’t want to get lost in the heaviness of it all.
My name is Bailee Schnell, an LGBTQ+ therapist in Montana.
I help fellow LGBTQ+ individuals who are struggling to make sense of a world that can be so hateful and fear-mongering, who are exhausted as they continuously try to balance challenging relationships with loved ones who hold hurtful belief systems. We work together to understand their own strengths, values, and belief systems, and how those might relate to their larger environment and relationships, so they can continue to build beautiful and fulfilling lives as they navigate current events, realities, and relationships, which may be rooted in values that differ from their own.
We exist and persist, even in the face of hate.
Those of us in the community understand that “coming out” is rarely a one-time experience; rather, at times, we find ourselves “coming out” almost daily as we navigate everyday life. My clients typically come to see me on a weekly basis, so they have consistent support as they work to balance relationships and process current events, while also honoring and protecting their own identity and truth. Together, we work to build trust and understanding in the different parts of yourself, so that you can feel more confident and genuine in any sphere of your life or social circle.
